Moon 2012 - A Romantic Moon

Every 19 years Moon comes close to earth in its orbit... and obviously it has its own effects - the poet in me sees the beauty, and the engineer in you may see something else, the physicist in you may sees something else.. What do you see?

This time around it is the full moon that came close to the earth,  Dallas has had lots of clouds last night, but I still managed to see it through the clouds.

Moon has been sanctified religiously among Jews, Muslims, Hindus and others, who follow the Lunar calendar as milestones for their festivals and superstitious events.

While the poets and artists have romanticized it, the poets in Urdu/Hindi and other Subcontinentian languages have made it an object of beauty.  Moon has a prominent place in romance and it is referred in feminine form. I know a lot of things in life, but don't know the place of moon in other languages, can some one enlighten me?

About two years ago, Yasmeen and I were vacationing in Cancun, we chose the night of  full moon to stay in a hotel with an open balcony, beach and ocean to see and full moon in the sky showering its graceful blessed Chandni (moon light) on us,  and of course.. it kindles the romance in every one....

I strongly recommend you to make the pilgrimage with your better half, its worth it. If you are going any way, select the night of full moon to stay on the beach and a room with balcony... I have enclosed a few pictures of the balcony...  watch the sunrise and the full moon in one a period of one day... it connects you with your spiritual being.  If not just find a cabin in the woods, on the hills or the mountains and soak in the glory of chandni (moonlit) romance. Life is meant to enjoy it, you have got to make that time.

Ek chand AasmaaN pay hai, Ek mere saath hai...

Here are some beautiful songs about Moon
Chuadhavin Ka Chand ho, ya aftaab ho

One of the 15 pictures is that of Mahatma Gandhi with the moon in the back drop, and I was thrilled to see my hero pictured. I believe this picture is from Washington DC. I wonder, if any one has shot a picture else where in the world.

Moon songs in Urdu-Hindi languages

The sight of full moon was amazing tonite, I was just wondering about the way the universe has been arranged and organized, it looks like a precision machine where every things runs smoothly. The sun shows up and the Jupiter orbits and the moon’s elastic distance and the tides… it’s all incredible. However, the creator wanted to make sure that we understand that there is no perfection, there are anomalies like Tsunamis and earthquakes are built-in or happens randomly. The lesson for us is to strive for the best but know that there is no perfection and we have to learn to be content.

With Prayers for the ones suffering in Japan, Libya, Bahrain and every where, we have to live as normal a life as we can. Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have demonstrated that it is necessary to live a normal life to make other aspect of life go on as smoothly as they can. One cannot uplift others when we sink; we have to rise to do more good to those who are down.

From this sentence forward, the topic is mainly for the Urdu/Hindi speaking friends, my regrets to the English speaking friends.

20 SONGS ON MOON

Moon has been associated with beauty and the poets usually compare the beauty of the beloved with that of Moon. I have no idea what it is in other languages, but Urdu/Hindi language is studded with moon in the poetry.

The words are Chand, Chanda, Chaand, Chandra…

Here is a list of some 20+ Songs on the theme of Moon in Urdu/Hindi language, most of the songs are pre-77 when I left India, I don’t know a whole lot of songs after that with an exception of a few, a few simply don’t sound romantic as the singer screams in the songs…

There are over 50 songs that I know with Chaand in its theme, missing in the list are songs by KL Saigal, Noor Jehan and Gita Dutt.  May be on next full moon I will have the rest of them.  Those who are familiar with the songs and movies might see a lot of connections between songs, actors… there is a continuous chain… years ago I did a radio show on Sundays called Golden Oldies and Golden Melodies, besides my talk shows on religion and topics of the day… and I used to weave the songs in a story.. a lot of people from South India, Bangladesh and Caribbean enjoyed the English narration and essence of the songs, rather than the translations.

Just got nostalgic… the moon is simply glowing and I dedicate these songs to my wife Yasmeen.

If you wish to go auto pilot… just click and go,

If auto does not work, here is the list.

Romantic evening

Tonite is a Romantic evening, soak it in.

Tonite is the eve of full moon. Nothing sentimental about it, but we are all conditioned to enjoy the beauty of it. Take a moment to soak in the beauty, tranquility and peace that filters into our souls with the moonlight for a few minutes, no matter how busy you are, or how your life may or may not be going, it is worth taking those few moments; just five minutes of pure bliss, take it, we have to upload all the good things we can in our lives.

Your are invited to my home in Carrollton, but must rsvp, to watch the moon from the expanse of the open space around my place. The blueish blackness of the space that nestles the moon is equally gorgeous. Across my home is a pond that sits atop the Golf course... and you will cherish a lot of fresh gentle breeze kissing your face. .... I will be home around 9 PM and we all can sit down and receive the peace that filters into our souls with the moonlight for a few hours. Couples and singles are invited regardless of the age.

I would welcome the posting of video of a romantic song in English language; I am posting one in Urdu/Hindi language from a Bollywood movie called "Chaudvin Ka chaand" from the early sixties. The Urdu poetry uses Moonlit nights and the full moon as the most beautiful event of the month, and one of the most beautiful ways to praise the beauty of the woman is to address her as "Chaudvin Ka Chaand". I know quite a few songs on Moon, but the one linked below is considered the pinnacle of romantic songs. This may or may not have the same appeal to those who are non-Urdu/Hindi speaking.

Glenda Gill our FB friend posted a note about the full moon, and I am adding a little more romance to it. I would have filmed it differently, but this was from the early sixties and is the best of best from times immemorial.

Lubna and FB friends or any of you girls or guys out there, please translate the song for our English speaking friends, not the literal, but the essence of it. If I have a few more minutes this afternoon, I will work on it.

If you are single or married, enjoy being one and soak in some of the glory of the moon tonite, in reality, each one of us is single in our heart, in our stillness, in our solititude, in our dreams and in our thoughts. We must be able to feel the joy for ourselves. The evening is yours, make the best out of it.
Guys, take the time with your girl, and if you know the Indian songs; sing this for her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9Vw2fL1Hw4&feature=related

Perhaps a little meditation may be pursposeful; or simply peacefully sitting and pondering over the most precious thing we own; life, and expressing our gratitutude to the creator or the creative process that gave us an opportunity to exist and feel the spectrum of emotions must be acknolwledged.

Have a beautiful day, it is yours to enjoy.
