Kali maa and infinite multi-tasking, and our inability to say, do or write about many things in one breath.

Not a day passes without someone accusing you of not including his or her issue in your talk, write up or act. Per the legend, only a woman, Kali Maa could perform many tasks at one time, she has multiple heads and hands to do that.  When Obama speaks, no matter how good his presentation is, there is always a group - anxiously waiting for him to recite their name, and everything else is meaningless to them if their group is not mentioned.

It's not only Obama, everyone in the community service, a Pastor, Pundit,  Imam, Father, Rabbi, Gyaniji, Shaman or a religious head is also put to the same tests. During the month of Ramadan, I have heard a few Imams who drag their prayers to include every representation, and take a very long time to recite such inclusive prayers, yet that would not be enough.

You are not an exception to such treatment and neither am I, and here is my experience.

One of the three major annual events we hold is Holocaust and Genocides.  Given the 2 hours program, we divide it up into three segments; 30 Minutes for Holocaust and 20 minutes for a Genocide (of the 50 Genocides on our list), and 20 minutes for a Massacre, the rest of the time goes for other chores.

Two years ago, we included a skit in the program to knock off the consistent complaints. In the skit, I would go on the podium and start speaking, “Today, we are going to talk about Holocaust, Sikh Genocide and Gaza Massacre… “Immediately an individual who was assigned to play my father’s role would walk up to me and slap hard on my face… and I fall on the floor.

He takes over the microphone and says, “I cannot believe you my son, I did not teach you to exclude others and talk only about yours.” I get up from the floor and grab the microphone and recite a long list of names about 25 Genocides until I ran out of breath….  and fall again.

He grabs the phone again and says, “Oh I see now, sorry my Son, I did not realize you can pack only 25 names of Genocides in one breath and not all the 50 on your list.”

Those who do not show up to the events always complain that, “Mike you are biased, you did not include Kashmir Pundits or the Bosnia Genocide… My eternal question to them is why did you forget Rwanda? Why did you forget Pol Pot? Why did you forget…?

In the last 9 years, we have been able to talk about 12 or 13 Genocides, but always show the entire list on the screen, even then there are Genocides we don’t even know about.  Indeed, some day, I will write a book about dealing with some of the most difficult situations with different communities; – Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jews, African Americans, Native Americans and others.

The first time we put the program together in 2006, a few members (just a few) of the Jewish community were on the edge and concerned about bringing up Palestinian Massacres (Sabra and Shatila).  We do talk about every one, we must see the inhumanity embedded in all of us to reflect and find solutions.  God has always been good to me and guided me during that critical moment in the opening speech,  in my invocation, instead of naming all the Genocides and Massacres, I called on a silent prayer and asked people to pray for the Genocides and Massacres they knew, to make it an all inclusive event. There was a sigh of relief on the faces of those few, wow! Silence is Golden.

We have to learn our limitations, we are not Kali Maa or a computer to perform infinite multiple tasks in the given time, a single breath to a single hour.

Now coming back to you, (the man who sent an email about me to groups) you can deal with one issue at a time.  The Yoga was the issue and that is what we dealt with.  If you want to talk about Kuwait Massacre, why didn’t you mention other massacres including Charleston Massacre? If you go to one of the Chinese buffets – why don’t you eat each one of the 72 items they have placed on the table?
When you leave early from a party – do you go to every one of the 50 fellow guests and say goodbye to them? If you do, I’ve to learn from you.
Let’s be contributors and not complainers.

ISIL Crisis - ISIS Rogues

ISIL CRISIS | TheGhousediary.com

We have to find a solution to the crisis of ISIL – Many ideas are floated including bombing the daylights out of them and wiping every one. Is that possible, has that happened? Would that make a bigger mess?

There is one idea that is yet to be explored – what gave birth to ISIS? What led them to come into existence? Can we undo those causes? Secondly, we need to look to them as rogue elements and not affix a religion to them, the Muslim world has agreed, condemned and now several nations are gathering up to knock them dead.

Can we just knock out the gang leaders with pin point accuracy which I had advocated at the beginning of the crises? Or spray the 24 hour knock out gas from the planes (backed up by heat seeking missiles in each district) and pick up the downed men and women, from one district at a time for trial or rehabilitation?

 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-ghouse/president-obama-go-ahead-_b_5765264.html
It should not be a joy to subdue, harass and shatter others, but should be a joy to stop the menace of the ISIL.

Thank you

mike

Saudi and Pakistani bigotry - anti-prophet practices

I have learned to live with bigotry but will not stop fighting it.  No nation, no community and no group of people are free from such evil forces from within.

Let me be clear, the majority of people are not bigots, only a tiny percent in any given majority and power hungry rulers are downright shameless bigots.

Are Americans free from it? Indians free from it? Are Christians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Bahá’ís or Sikhs free from it? None whatsoever!

The Saudi are definitely not, here is a video made by Pakistanis making fun of the bigotry of Saudis, without realizing that they are equally bigoted.

The video is in Urdu/Hindi language where a Saudi employer interviews a Pakistani for a job in a restaurant. He asks questions to make sure that the guy is not Shia…. and when he affirms it that he is not, but adds that he is an Ahmadiyya Muslim, the employer loses his mind! What a bigot!

Now the irony is that Pakistani passport and visa asks stupid dumb questions – to show their bigotry towards Ahmadiyya Muslims. It is downright disgusting.

What is sad is that Saudis claim to follow the Prophet, who taught that all men are created equal, and even in his last sermon he made that clear that no one is superior to the other and that obedience to God means respecting all his creation.  Islam and the prophet's teachings go against prejudices and discrimination of any kind.  Indeed, to knock out racial bias (or superiority) from the hearts and minds of people, he made Hazrat Bilal (An African) the chief Muezzin (prayer caller), the light skinned Arabs swallowed that and started respecting others without bias (The racist among Republicans are still sunk low to respect Obama)  Now, are they rejecting the prophet? Are they telling Prophet was wrong?

Humor can communicate difficult issues - shame on Saudi's and Shame on Pakistanis for letting their governments practice prejudices against fellow Muslims, let alone fellow humans. And shame on me for not screaming enough about India and the US for the blatant discriminatory practices, the only solace is, it is not the law of the land in either India or America, but shamefully practiced by a few in the majority.

Religions don’t mean a thing to the people, even though they wear that cloak. I wish, people follow their own religion and be good humans. Are Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Jews… following their religion?  Is the civil society following their rules? If they do, the world would be a better place.

All you and I can do is to speak out against whenever and wherever we see prejudice and discrimination.

Obama's words of wisdom about ISIS and Islam

Let's put our biases aside, and review if President Obama's words and actions represent what is a moral and astute policy, and also if it is good for the United States of America. Let us examine his choice of words at the "Summit on Countering Violent Extremism" and his reminder at the National Prayer Breakfast to be humble and cognizant of our own historical record.

Interfaith thanksgiving celebrations with Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas presided over the proceedings of the 16th annual thanksgiving celebrations and awards night on Saturday, November 22, 2014. It is a bridge building event between communities.

We ought to be thankful to Native Americans, who did not put the electric fence around Americas to keep the illegal aliens like Columbus and other Europeans from entering America without a visa.  Today, we are a nation of immigrants, other than the natives; almost all of us are immigrants from one to several generations.
The event was organized by America Together Foundation, World Muslim Congress. And the Foundation for Pluralism, all committed to building a cohesive America where no American has to live in tension, discomfort, apprehension or fear of the other.

The purpose of celebrating this event was to thank God for guiding us to learn to respect the otherness of others, and accept the God given uniqueness of each one of us.  And more importantly it is to familiarize the new immigrants with the festivities.  You’ll be surprised to find that many of them have not even seen the thanksgiving meal and its fixings. It was not a part of their study for citizenship and apparently no one has done this as a public event.
“Congresswoman Johnson represents the aspiration of fellow Americans; justice and liberty for every American in his or her pursuit of happiness, and she fights for that relentlessly – Is that the kind of congressperson we want?, well here she is.” Mike Ghouse welcomed her amidst a thunderous applause.

To paraphrase Congresswoman Johnson, “we have made sacrifices to respect the human rights, civil liberties and freedom for our new generations and now they have those rights.   On the map of the world, ours is still the best country.  The immigrant community has always played an important role in the development of US."
It was a delight to watch the Congresswoman carve the symbolic turkey, and sharing what thanksgiving means to her; to count your blessings.  For many a immigrants it is an introduction to the American way of life and who else can do a better job than the Congresswoman? Through her efforts and against all impediments, she has realized her American dream.

Chef Ali of Spicy Cuisine in Irving prepared delicious vegetarian and non-veg meals with a fixing of thanksgiving delicacies.

Congresswoman Johnson presented the awards to four community leaders and delivered a beautiful keynote address on gratitude, while highlighting the need for events like this to bring people together regardless of their political, religious, racial or and social affiliation to build a safe, secure and a cohesive America.

Mike Ghouse, president of the foundation shared the real life stories that exemplify thanksgiving; stories about Appaiah and the hospitality in Saudi Arabia. How each one of us can restore the spiritual balance within and live a productive, meaningful and a purposeful life. The Appaiah story was published in
Huffington Post Link , and the Saudi story, all pictures, and notes will be atwww.ThanksgivingCelebrations.org

The attendees were represented by people of different faiths, races, political orientations and other uniqueness’s. They cheered on when Mike Ghouse, chair of the event asked. Whether you are Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Gay, Lesbian, Black, White, Native, Immigrant, Republican or Democrat, how many of you like to see your Congress person represent you with equal care and consideration? How many of you would like to see your congress person treat you with dignity and respect regardless of who you are?  Well here she is, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson.”She delivered a beautiful key note speech about Gratitude.

The following individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions to building bridges in the communities we live – the title conferred upon all of them was “Pluralist” – meaning someone who respects the otherness of others.Every society has heroes – that is men and women who have gone beyond their normal self to serve the communities at large, and it is our responsibility as a society to acknowledge, cherish and honor them.

Here is a brief introduction of the recipients; detail profiles will be available at
www.thanksgivingcelebrations.org
Raja Zahid A. Khanzada – a Journalist for his “Commitment to truth in Journalism.” He reports for the top news media conglomerates in Pakistan and has been a catalyst in a process of “forgiveness” of the robbers – where they surrendered their guns in return for acceptance in the society to live and breathe a normal life, and be the contributors of the nation. It is sort of what President Obama is doing with the undocumented aliens, a noble thing to do.  Raja is a relentless pursuer of education with three Master’s degrees and a degree in Homeopathic medical sciences and holds certification from American Alternative Medicine Practitioner Board in practice of alternative medicine.  He amazed everyone when he asked his mother to receive the plaque.

Amina Rab – a community activist and leader for “Building Bridges.” Amina is deeply committed to building bridges between the Muslim community and other communities.  It is not her job, but a passion to build bridges. She
is the President of the Council on American Islamic Relations- DFW chapter and is the first woman to serve on the North Texas Islamic Council, and is a founding Board member of Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation.   She is a Scientist in the healthcare industry for 20 years.  Amina is an entrepreneur with a home based business, a mother, a grandmother and a community Activist with a passion to promote peace and justice in the world.

Anne Marie Weiss – a community leader for “Bringing the DFW communities together.”  Anne Marie single handedly started the DFW international in early nineties – she had the vision for making the Dallas/ Fort worth an international Metroplex, even before it was declared as such.  Today, DFW International has become an exemplary institution in America. There is nothing like it.  Where can you find connections to every cultural, religious, social and ethnic group in one place? None in America! She has put Dallas Fort Worth on the world Map. If you see the demographic statistics of nationalities and ethnicities in Dallas, it was her effort.  It is her selfless devotion to the belief that DFW should genuinely reflect its diversity.

Sante Santhanam Chary –is a national figure in “Connecting the World Leaders.” Sante is one of the very few Americans, perhaps the only immigrant who has met, shook hands and shared a message with 7 American Presidents and 8 Indian Presidents/Prime Ministers.
Sante is continuously forging political and business ties between the United States and India and in September this year, he got the US Senate to pass a resolution creating “2014 U.S.-India Partnership Day” to honor Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US.
He has set a new world record by collecting over 55 contemporary signatures in solidarity on a USPS issued First Day Envelope with Mahatma Gandhi’s stamp on it. Sante is a healthcare entrepreneur with a focus on physician staffing services to small towns in the US.  He is a graduate of The Harvard Business School and the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.

We are one nation.

Collectively, we are one nation under God represented by every race, religion, political orientation, nationality, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation and culture. Everything that God has created in the universe, we have it here in America. Indeed, we are God’s own country.

As Americans together, we see God as one, none and many and in every form; male, female, genderless and non-existent, being and non-being, nameless and with innumerable names. Our organization, America together Foundation is committed to preserve this pluralistic heritage of America.

Most of the problems we have in our nation can be traced to one thing – not knowing and being judgmental about others. Whether it is Ferguson, Homophobia, Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, Misogyny or whatever evils creep on us, they gain ground because we don’t know each other.

How do we come out of these and create a cohesive nation where no one has to live in apprehension, discomfort or fear of the other? At America Together foundation we have plans to bring about this change.

A full report with speeches and pictures will be published in a week.

Relevance of Friday Sermons at Mosques

Imam Zia Sheikh and Imam Yaseen

You two are exceptions! You live and breathe the deen (religion) and duniya (world),  and I connect with you two, both of you are open minded and respect the God-given life in here now, and take care of the Amana (Life is a trust),  and not sacrifice it for the Aakhira (hereafter).

However, your concerns are legitimate, yes, many of the Khutbas (sermons) are irrelevant, and have nothing to do with my day to day life. Some of them are downright stupid, as a Muslim, I don’t want to mince the words; A Khateeb was telling in a mosque that Aids is not a Muslim issue, because we are so pious we don’t get Aids – there were several medical doctors in the congregation… I don’t know if they dove into the cell phone or did not have the balls to speak up, but I went to read stuff in my cell phone.  I communicated that in my note a few weeks later, and guess what happened - well of course, you believe the Imam.
The issue is relevance of Khutba.

I would love to give a Khutba in your mosque, on the topic of how we connect with the Prophet, and what it means to us on a day to day basis. How can we become the Rahmat to our fellow beings without distinction? Being Amin is the first requirement of being a Muslim that is the foundation model Prophet gave us – instead we chose the others Sunna’s as our brand recognition.

By the way, I give talks on the topic " Muhammad the Peacemaker" along with MLK and Gandhi during the season of peace. Here are a few articles to indicate what it would entail:

Let me know if I can.

Fox News is good entertainment, is it not?

As long as it acknowledges that Fox News is an expression of the agenda of Roger Ailes, I am fine with it, it is good entertainment. But to call it fair and balanced works for those who do not want to see or hear another point of view.

Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly and Megyn Kelly have good shows, you may disagree with them, and I do, but they are a necessity, they keep the government on their toes. Now, I have to see if they will do the same with Republican Majority in Senate and the house.

I have been on their shows. In fact, I will be doing my 98th show on Hannity this week. Let me wish this – I hope every country in the world has shows like Hannity, bold, dare and a pain in the ass, but he fulfills his duty to the public by relentlessly questioning the government, and that to me is very patriotic. Hannity is a great American.

Thank you
