Saudi Arabian Monarchy violates two principles by executing Sheikh Nimr, a Shia leader

Tuesday, January 5, 2016, Dallas, Texas. -- The Monarchs of Saudi Arabia have executed Sheikh Nimr, a Shia Muslim religious leader for his expression of dissent.

There are two issues here: violation of free speech and wrecking the delicate relationships between Shia and Sunni at this time.  This is not acceptable, we demand an apology as well as reparations to fix the relationships.

As Americans counting on stable relationship with the people of different nations, we have to consider long term sustainability of the form of governance and if it serves justice to all her citizens, anything short is a powder keg waiting to explode. We have to advise the Monarchs to ease themselves into a monarchy in the likes of United Kingdom or risk in the likes of Shah, Saddam, Qaddafi, Mubarak and others.

On January 02, Saudi Arabia executed a prominent Shiia cleric named Nimr al-Nimr, who led anti-government protests in 2011, along with 46 others (mostly Sunnis) labeled as “terrorists” within the kingdom. The move appears to be designed to stoke Sunni-Shiia tensions and shows that Sunni Saudi Arabia is taking a more provocative stance toward Shiia Iran than it has in the past.
Daily Muslims reports, "Al-Nimr was a fervent dissident against the Sunni Muslim Saudi royal family who called for their deposal during the Arab spring uprisings in 2011. Al-Nimr was a central figure in Arab Spring-inspired protests by Saudi Arabia's Shiite minority until his arrest in 2012. He was convicted of terrorism charges but he denied advocating violence. Meanwhile, al-Nimr's family prepared for three days of mourning at a mosque in al-Awamiya in the kingdom's al-Qatif region in predominantly Shiite eastern Saudi Arabia. Saudi officials informed his family that the cleric had been buried in an undisclosed cemetery, a development that could lead to further protests.
Al-Nimr's execution spurred sectarian protests and violence in the Middle East. Now, it has sparked a serious diplomatic rift. The two countries have long been at odds, but Saudi Arabia's execution of Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr kicked off a new round of sparring between them that analysts say could mark a dangerous shift in an already volatile region."

A full press release will be out by Friday.

Muslim bulletin dated December 25, 2014 to Washington Muslims

Muslim Bulletin

Insha Allah, I will be in Washington DC between Saturday January 10 through Sunday, January 18 and again on January 26 and 27th for three specific purposes;

1. To share information about the upcoming film “Sacred” –
what Muslims ought to be in a given society and hoping to change perceptions about Muslims around the world.

2. To invite participation in the 8th Annual Holocaust and Genocides commemoration, a bridge builder event set for Tuesday, January 27, 2014

3. To establish America Together foundation with a mission to build a cohesive America where no American has to live in apprehension, discomfort or fear of the other. Islam would be a major beneficiary of the work and we will have a strong presence in the media.

CONTENTS OF THIS BULLETIN
  1. Upcoming film Sacred, global release
  2. Holocaust and Genocides commemoration in Washington DC
  3. Establishing America Together Foundation
  4. Islam through the lens of Pluralism
  5. A Muslim’s Christmas
  6. “PK” the film
  7. Donation

A. SACRED, THE FILM
What is Sacred, Flag, Holy Books, Mother, Freedom of Speech?
Sacred Film is about a successful real life event set in Mulberry, Florida coupled with a compelling romantic story built around the Quran burning incident. It is filled with human aspirations, fears, suspense and actions of a typical Hollywood Film.

The film skillfully manages conflicting issues of freedom of speech v what is sacred; safety of Americans v violent reactions; and radicalism v. pluralism. It is an embodiment of conflict mitigation and goodwill nurturance based on teachings of Jesus Christ and Prophet Muhammad. It is a model for building cohesive societies.  Indeed, the concept is encouraged by major institutions.

Through “Sacred”, the world will witness positive changes taking shape; it encourages what Muslims ought to be – the Amins, and how they will be perceived by the society at large. What is good for Muslims has got to be good for the world and vice-versa to restore sustainable harmony.

Sacred is an exemplary story of ordinary Muslim Americans working with fellow Americans of different faiths in forging a new paradigm; a cohesive America where no American has to live in tension, apprehension or fear of the other.

Shooting will begin in March for a September 11 release.  I will be happy to give a presentation to your group.

B. HOLOCAUST AND GENOCIDES COMMEMORATION

8TH Annual public event to be held in Dallas on Sunday 1/25 and Washington DC on Tuesday 1/27 – It is a community bridge builder.

The purpose of this event is education, information and activism. We hope to learn and acknowledge our failings and make a personal commitment to do our individual share of expressing, “Never again”.
Our mission is to create awareness of the inhumanity within each one of us and hope to find the solutions.

The civic leaders, and leaders from the Atheist, Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islam, Jain, Jewish, Native Americans, Pagan, Sikh, Wicca, Zoroastrian and other traditions will come together and share their wisdom and their internal commitment to building a cohesive America, where no American has to live in apprehension or fear of the other. We have to do our share of creating the kingdom of heaven right here on the earth.

The Holocaust event has been commemorated by the Jewish community since 1953 for the loss of 6 million Jews during the Holocaust, known as Yom HaShoah in Synagogues around the world.  Now, we have been sharing that information along with the various Genocides and Massacres around the world with public at large.

We at America Together Foundation are committed to spreading the knowledge of Holocaust and Genocides through interfaith and public events for the last seven years.

C. AMERICA TOGETHER FOUNDATION
Our mission is to build a cohesive America, where no American has to live in apprehension, discomfort or fear of the other.  We have a few clear cut goals and a few of them are as follows;

1.  Initiate a Leadership program in political Pluralism. We hope to establish the program to orient leaders with the concept of inclusiveness. We want no bigots in our politics and for that we have to start working on it – with a 10 year plan.

2. Establish the Center for Pluralism, an institute to study and teach cultural, family, social, political, and religious pluralism. The shortest definition for Pluralism would be-respecting the otherness of others and when we do that, conflicts fade and solutions will emerge.

3. Push the Interfaith dialogue to its limits, so we can face tough issues head-on, and get it over with it.  I hope we learn to live with our differences, rather than pretending to be nice and live with a load of ill-will within. Such attitudes are explosive and generate phrases like they asked for it, or they deserved it when the other group is in difficult situation.

4. A film “Americans Together, building a cohesive America” is being conceived for a 2016 Release inclusive of the presidential primaries. We are looking to have our presence in the debates as a moderator to hone on the idea of Americans Together.   Hopefully, this would be a first film where almost every representation of America can be seen. It is again a movie to reflect the book Standing up for others and building cohesive societies. The gist of the film can be seen on the home page ofwww.AmericaTogetherFoundation.com

D. ISLAM THROUGH THE LENS OF PLURALISM
Insha Allah we are holding a trial discussion on the topic with an Imam, myself and a Sunday School Muslim Teacher and address - Why are Muslims NOT confident about their faith today?  How do we create an OPEN community life as Muslims?  Is Islam our culture or our conviction? What do we need to do bring about a change? We can take this discussion to different cities.

E. A MUSLIM’S CHRISTMAS

May this Christmas open our hearts and minds to each other and let there be peace on earth. One of the most frequently used words during Christmas season is peace. Indeed, it is a reflection of the innermost desire within each one of us, whether we are Christians or not. Christmas is an annual milestone that intensifies the desire to have peace for oneself and for the world.
Christmas evokes kindness, empathy and goodness toward fellow beings; it's a euphoric feeling of renewal that Jesus taught to the world, it is a sense of completion one feels when he or she finds in tune with humanity. Jesus showed the way by embracing the whole humanity regardless of who they were. He is my hero, he is my mentor, and he is the first known pluralist on the earth. Christmas is a celebration of that refreshed feeling.
Jesus holds a special place in every one's heart, but particularly among Christians and Muslims, comprising over half the population of the world.

The Muslims call him Isa-Masih, the one who heals and one who brought life to the dead. The name of Jesus appears 27 times in Quran and one of the 114 Chapters is dedicated to Marryam, Mother Mary and the virgin birth.

F. “PK” – AN AMIR KHAN FILM

The movie is an educational, humorous communications, addressing the critical issues in a society, particularly from a religious point of view.  No one should miss this movie.

There is a good possibility that this movie was conceived from the ideas written by us on Pluralism.

The film is a panacea to the problems we face today.  Indeed, it reflects the values of a common man representative of the moderate majority; namely live and let live. The insecure right wing religious and political leaders of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity and Sikhism may not like this film initially, but will see its value in building cohesive societies where everyone can be safe.  It is one of the best films made highlighting the value of knowing each other as encapsulated in Quran 49:13.

You name the award; the film will bag it including the Oscar.  Insha Allah, in 2015 will be the year for the film Sacred.

Justice cannot be compromised in case of death penalty to Maulana Sayeedi for Bangladesh war crimes.

URL- http://worldmuslimcongress.blogspot.com/2013/03/justice-cannot-be-compromised-in-case.html

The oddest piece of news we have encountered lately is the death penalty verdict to Maulana Sayeedi charged with inciting crimes against humanity during the Bangladesh War of freedom in 1971.

Death penalty is usually welcomed by the conservatives in the Muslim world, in the United States, South Asia, China and a few other nations. But this time around, ironically the conservatives are protesting the death penalty punishment.

We must resist the temptation to give Sayeedi his own dose of Sharia law; death penalty.

The most important principle in the application of Sharia Law is justice, and not the base instincts to take revenge or end those who oppose. Even if they hate Sayeedi for the war crimes, the death and destruction he caused, they should be just to him.  Indeed, some of the Sharia defenders are the ones who drew sadistic mis-pleasure in executing people in the civil society; we need to ensure justice is justice.

To be just is to follow Quran, one of the most profound statements on justice in Quran, states that don’t let your bias, prejudice or hate come in the way of being just. There is a lot of wisdom in it in keeping peace (Islam) in the society alive.

I do hope and pray that the Bangladesh Supreme Court hears the appeal. Justice denied to one is justice denied to all. The following verses from Qur’an strongly recommend one to be just

4:58 (Asad) BEHOLD, God bids you to deliver all that you have been entrusted with unto those who are entitled thereto, and whenever you judge between people, to judge with justice.   Verily, most excellent is what God exhorts you to do: verily, God is all-hearing, all-seeing!

5:8 (Asad) O YOU who have attained to faith! Be ever steadfast in your devotion to God, bearing witness to the truth in all equity; and never let hatred of any-one lead you into the sin of deviating from justice. Be just: this is closest to being God-conscious. And remain conscious of God: verily, God is aware of all that you do

16:90 (Asad) BEHOLD, God enjoins justice, and the doing of good, and generosity towards [one's] fellow-men;  and He forbids all that is shameful and all that runs counter to reason,  as well as envy; [and] He exhorts you [repeatedly] so that you might bear [all this] in mind.

34:26 (Asad) Say: “Our Sustainer will bring us all together [on Judgment Day], and then He will lay open the truth between us, in justice - for He alone is the One who opens all truth, the All-Knowing!”

38:26 (Asad) [And We said:] “O David! Behold, We have made thee a [prophet and, thus, Our] vicegerent on earth: judge, then, between men with justice, and do not follow vain desire, lest it lead thee astray from the path of God: verily, for those who go astray from the path of God there is suffering severe in store for having forgotten the Day of Reckoning!”

49:9 (Asad) Hence, if two groups of believers fall to fighting,  make peace between them; but then, if one of the two [groups] goes on acting wrongfully towards the other, fight against the one that acts wrongfully until it reverts to God’s commandment;  and if they revert, make peace between them with justice, and deal equitably [with them]: for verily, God loves those who act equitably!

Death Penalty is indeed a primitive form of justice where the state deliberately and intentionally kills the bad guy as horribly as the criminal had committed those crimes on innocent civilians. The death penalty is still prevalent in most of the United States, South Asia, Middle East and many a Muslim majority nations.

Death penalty needs to go, but we cannot let go of justice.
Islam to most Muslims is justice and accountability of one’s actions. God declares in Quran that the best ones among you are those who take the time to know each other. When you do that, conflicts fade and solutions emerge to live in harmony with fellow humans. A Muslim is someone who seeks to mitigate conflicts and nurtures goodwill.

I will not consider myself a Muslim if I did not stand up for the rights of another human being, Muslim or not, period.

In defense of Islam, pursuing a civil dialogue

Dallas Morning News - http://www.dallasnews.com/news/columnists/steve-blow/20100919-In-defense-of-Islam-pursuing-9397.ece

By Steve Blow sblow@dallasnews.com Published 19 September 2010 02:28 AM

Over and over you hear it said: If Muslims oppose terrorism, why don't they stand up and say it?

If that has been you, Mike Ghouse ought to be your hero.

It is hard to imagine that anyone has worked harder than the Carrollton resident to demonstrate the peaceful and moderate side of Islam.

And that effort includes personally visiting Dallas' First Baptist Church last Sunday just to put a friendly face on the "evil, evil religion" that the Rev. Robert Jeffress denounced a few weeks before.

"It was wonderful," Ghouse said of the visit. "We were so warmly received."

He hopes a quick chat with Jeffress will be the start of deeper discussion about Islam and the importance of respect between religions.

"I want to have a dialogue with him, not to say he is wrong but to share another point of view," Ghouse said.

The 57-year-old Muslim was born in India and has lived in the United States for 30 years. He owns a small property management firm. But most of his day is devoted to building bridges between people of different faiths.

"It is my passion," he said in his distinctive raspy voice.

He has been a guest a dozen times on Sean Hannity's TV and radio talk shows. "I don't like the way Sean cuts me off, but I have to honor him for giving the American public a semblance of another point of view."

Ghouse said he can understand fear and criticism of Islam because he went through a time of similar feelings. As a teen, he was troubled by passages of the Quran. He called himself an atheist for a while.

But he said deeper study led him to realize the Quran had been purposely mistranslated down through history.

In the Middle Ages, European leaders commissioned a hostile Quran translation to foster warfare against Muslim invaders.

Later, Muslim leaders produced another translation to inflame Muslims against Christians and Jews.

"It was all for politics," he said.

Ghouse said he hopes to present Jeffress with a modern, faithful translation and challenge him to find evil verses.

"If he can, I will convert. I will join his church," Ghouse said. "If he can't, I will call on him to retract his statements and become a peacemaker."

Ghouse acknowledges that deep problems persist within Islam. "Three steps forward, two steps back," he said with a sigh.

And he agrees that mainstream Muslims have not done enough to counter violent images of their faith.

"That is very true," he said. "But part of it is that many Muslims have given up hope that we will ever be heard."

He said repeated denunciations of terrorism seem to fall on deaf ears.
And some efforts have backfired - like the proposed Islamic information center in New York. He said it should be hailed for furthering the moderate Muslim cause.

Instead, it has deepened hostility toward Muslims.

I have been astounded by the amount of anti-Islam propaganda that circulates via e-mail. Tons of it has come my way in the last few weeks.

One theme is that people like Mike Ghouse can't be trusted, that Islam encourages deception.
But Ghouse says actions speak louder than words. And he points to elections in Muslim nations.

More than half of Muslims live in countries with some degree of democracy. And time and time again, Islamist parties are overwhelmingly rejected in favor of secular, mainstream parties.
"The religious parties don't get more than 3 percent of the vote," Ghouse said.

Polls show deep mistrust of Muslims. "But the most important question in those surveys is: 'Do you know anything about Islam?' " Ghouse said. "Most people say no."

What keeps him going is faith in Americans, he said.
"The majority of Americans, if they know the truth, they will change their minds."

Hunting down Shias: What can we do about it?

What can we do about it?

Let's ask our imams to address this issue in our Friday Sermons, and let's go pray Juma prayers with the Shia Muslims, let's show  solidarity with them. That is the least we can do.
Insha Allah, we will hold a meeting in April about this situation here in Dallas, please come up with simple practical day to day ideas that each one of us can do.

 .......................................................................
Maheen Usmani writes in Dawn,

  •  "KARACHI: Hauled off buses, targeted in their clinics, on boulevards, in alleys, in shops, in offices, in processions and pilgrimages, is there any place left safe for Shias in Pakistan? At Ashura, they were chastised for taking out Moharram processions and giving terrorists an open field in which to attack.
  • Till yesterday, they might have thought that the inner sanctum of their homes would provide them protection against the growing madness swirling around them. But now the killing fields are their own homes.

  • They are hoping for a better tomorrow, but who can blame them for losing hope day by day?
  • The founder of Pakistan, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, was a Shia but today he is called a kafir by many venomous Pakistanis.
  • Mr Jinnah’s prophetic words “United we Stand, Divided we Fall’’ have never seemed more tragically relevant to the country he founded with such high hopes and aspirations. "
...........................................................................

If Israel bulldozes the house of a Palestinian, we raise bloody hell and demonstrate big time everywhere, and that is the right thing to do, but when it comes to people in our own backyard, we are totally screwed up. Either we are scared, or simply don't care beyond our own disgusting self. Imagine how the Shia, Ahmadiyya,Hindu and Christian Minorities feel in Pakistan now.

I thank Allah for making me a minority through out my life, so I can feel the anxieties and pain of the fellow beings.

The least we can do is to do the thu-thu (spitting; an act of condemnation in the culture) at the government of Zardari, they have failed to protect the Citizens.  The least we can do is to lend  support to Shia Muslims, so they can feel a bit secure that the ordinary Sunnis are with them.  I hear their cries, the lady in the picture breaks my heart.

Had it not been for the American majority, and the laws of the nations, many Pakistanis would have been harassed. If we want our lives to be not discriminated, we need to stand up for others whose lives are made hell.
